The Mulloon Institute - Rehydrating Australia

The Mulloon Institute’s vision is to support the rebuilding of a resilient Australian landscape which produces the water, soil and biodiversity required to produce food and water security for the Australian population in the short and long term.

To do this, we aim to support the regeneration of 100 agricultural landscapes over the next 10 years. Our current major catchment-scale project is the Mulloon Community Landscape Rehydration Project, working with 20 landowners from the Mulloon catchment in southern New South Wales.

The Mulloon Institute is an environmental charity registered in Australia with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). We welcome donations to support the legacy of our late Founder Tony Coote AM and to continue our work across the country. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.

We’re keen to engage with innovative thinking Catchment Management and local Landcare groups who are passionate about rehydrating the landscape in their own catchments. We offer specifically tailored tours of the Mulloon rehabilitation areas (creek and hillside sites) and nearby regenerative agriculture sites, as well as providing professional advice on landscape rehydration.

Landholders and Landcare groups are encouraged to contact us about private creek tours for groups of up to 25 people, incorporating the Mulloon Creek rehabilitation area and the step diffusion system on hillside country, followed by a presentation and Q&A session in the Barn.

University and school groups are also actively encouraged to talk to us about tailoring our private creek tours to address your specific educational needs.

We’ll also be running another series of Mini Field Days in early 2020, which are open to the public.

We regularly host Natural Sequence Farming training courses at Mulloon Creek, with Tarwyn Park Training, and are taking expressions of interest for future courses. Visit our Events page for upcoming dates.

A broad range of project opportunities are available for Honours, Masters and PhD students to undertake post graduate studies in flora, fauna, geological, hydrological, soils and production systems as part of the Mulloon Community Landscape Rehydration Project.

Currently, we’re seeking volunteers to help with the Mulloon Community Landscape Rehydration Project for upcoming on-ground activities during November and December 2019. Plus, we’re having a Volunteer Tree Planting day on Sunday 1 December 2019.

All profits from egg sales at Mulloon Creek Natural Farms directly fund our continuing work into landscape restoration in Australia. You can buy them at a variety of locations in NSW and the ACT.
